Competent Person for Inspection of PPE

The participants learn to carry out, document and archive autonomous expert inspections of personal protective equipment against fall. The focus is on the statutory and manufacturer-specific specifications for inspecting PPE, and knowledge of possible damage and defects to PPE. This module builds on RSC-HSE-05 Working at heights and rescue training, basics.

Knowledge

State the most important legal requirements and technical rules for PPE
Describe the rights and obligations of employees and employers with regard to health and safety standards
State the rights and duties of the expert
State the statutory and manufacturer
specific PPE labeling specifications
Describe possible PPE uses
Describe restraint and fall arrest systems, and systems for rescue from height and depth
Describe PPE maintenance procedures and measures
List possible defects and damage to PPE

Skills

Perform PPE function test
Determine defects, damage and fitness for use
Perform PPE labeling with inspection stickers in accordance with manufacturer specifications
Filling out and maintaining control cards

Prerequisites

RSC-HSE-05, At least two years experience with and use of PPE in various parts of wind turbines
